Camping Guide – Horton Plains Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka forest department have amazing campsites all around the island which can book from Battaramulla Forest Department head office. Certainly Horton Plains is one of the best among them.

Booking

Hortain plains got three camping sites and you will have to select one place and book by paying charge of Rs.2500/= (2020.02). Campsites situated 750m from Horton plains visitor center. One campsite will accommodate 10 persons and every campsite has a toilet. further, Car park is available for Rs.250 near the visitor office.

Camping

Not like other National Parks, here you cannot go by vehicle to the campsite. walking around the park is prohibited After 6pm. Therefore make sure all necessaries available to spend the night before its too late. If you are a beginner, avoid camping during  Jan – Feb (Cold) and July – August (windy). Make sure you have high quality camping gears to face the changing weather conditions.

Wilde Life

Horton Plains famous for Lanka Leopard and there is a chance to see them from campsites if you are lucky enough. 

Wild boar attack incidents has reported for campers and please be careful when taking food items since which might attract animals.

Strict guidelines involved in Horton Plain camping and please be aware them before stepping to the Camp Ground. specially below things are prohibited.

  • Open Fire 
  • BBQ 
  • Liqueur
  • Roaming around the park after 6.00pm
  • Sound systems, Percussion instruments & singing
  • Any event which disturb the wildlife 
  • Plastic & polythene use

Campers should well aware of the rules of Horton Plains camping and there were instances where campers ended up in police/jail with fines for non obedience.
