Devil’s Staircase – Ohiya Sri Lanka

There are so many locations around the world called “Devil’s Staircase” (යකාගේ පඩිපෙල). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil%27s_staircase

We also got one here in Sri Lanka and it is located between Kalupahana & Ohiya. If we explain what is the Devil’s Staircase is, it is a man-made zig-zag road which is extremely steep and difficult.

The most amazing part of this trip is the Route. It runs through amazing and dangerous nature surrounding and more importantly Bambarakanda Falls and Lanka Ella falls can be seen in the middle of this 14Km thrilling ride.

TRIP SUMMARY

There are vehicles who takes people this ride. you can contact them from Kalupahana Junction or from nearby bambarakanda Falls. However, marching along the way to Ohiya is the best experience you can get.

There are few places you can choose for camping during this trip.

1 – Top of the Bambarakanda Falls

A great location to camp. there are campers who spend the night on the top of falls and sometimes might be difficult to find a good ground to set up your tent due to the steep.

2 – Devil’s stair case road

This location is also good for camping. the only issue here is vehicles might disturb your peace.

3 Tea Estate

This is the Last location you find right before the Ohiya Main Road which is suitable for set up the Camping Tent.
