Bomburu Falls, also called Peravella Falls, is a wide waterfall located near the border of the Badulla Nuwara Eliya district in Sri Lanka. It is considered the widest waterfall in the country. Found in the Sita Eliya Kandapola Reserve, this beautiful waterfall can be found in Peravella village, about 15 kilometers from Welimada and read till the end of this article to see whether Bomburu ella camping is allowed.
The Formation of Bomburu Ella
This beautiful waterfall is form dividing the Dulgala River, a tributary of the Mahaweli River, into four parts. It’s about 50 meters tall and 20 meters wide. Locals call the lower part Uma Oya.
Bomburu Ella Location
If you’re coming from Kandy to Welimada via Nuwara Eliya or from Colombo, go to Bandarawela first and then head to Welimada. You can take a bus from Welimada town to Bomburu Falls via Uduhawara. If you have your own vehicle, take the road from Welimada to Uva Paranagama. After passing the Ambagasdowa junction and the Himbiliyagahamaditta Mudanawa junction, you’ll find the footpath to Bomburu Ella after about 11 km.
When you visit the waterfall, ask the villagers for directions. The footpath is about 2 km long and along the way, you’ll see the waterfall surrounded by beautiful fields and vines.
This diverse environment was once a hunting ground during the British era. The waterfall makes a loud sound and throws water up to 30 meters away. There’s a place below the falls where you can swim. When mist hangs over Bomburu Falls, it looks even more beautiful. You can stare at this waterfall for a long time and never get tired of its charm. It’s simply enchanting.
